One Congress. Three Societies. Every Newborn.
The Congress of Joint European Neonatal Societies (jENS) brings together three pillars of the neonatal world under a single, unified scientific platform: the European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR), the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies (UENPS), and the Global Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (GFCNI). This unique alliance makes jENS Congress the most comprehensive neonatal meeting in the world — the only congress that unites scientific research, clinical excellence, and the voice of families and patients in one shared space.
Newborn medicine stands at a defining moment. Rapid advances across basic science, translational research, and clinical practice are transforming what is possible in the NICU. At the same time, the challenges of extreme prematurity, global health inequity, and the growing complexity of neonatal care demand responses that no single society or discipline can provide alone. jENS was built for exactly this complexity.
By bringing together the research community of ESPR, the scientific network of neonatal and perinatal societies of UENPS, and the families represented by GFCNI, jENS Congress creates a conversation that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of scientific exchange. Here, a researcher presenting novel findings sits alongside a nurse specialist redefining standards of care, a parent advocate shaping the future of patient involvement, and a clinician from a low-resource setting addressing the unfinished agenda of global neonatal health. This is the essence of jENS: multidisciplinary, multi-professional, and deeply human.
jENS is not only a place to present the best science; it is a place to ask the most important questions, forge new collaborations, and translate evidence into better outcomes for every newborn and every family, wherever they are born in the world.
The European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR) has been at the forefront of Paediatric medical care and innovation since 1958. As one of the oldest and most prolific Paediatric societies in Europe, all activities follow its mission: Developing and applying research to improve newborn and child health.
The ESPR’s activities are organised according to three pillars:
The ESPR co-organises large-scale annual conferences, supports investigators with research grants, runs a mentoring programme and disseminates cutting-edge findings through its Springer-Nature journal Pediatric Research, amongst others.
Based on its heritage and proudly looking back at a long list of achievements, the ESPR continues to promote scientific excellence and collaboration between different Paediatric specialties. This the ESPR does from ‘bench to bedside’ – meaning it fosters research to improve patient treatment and advance clinical practice.
The Global Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (GFCNI) is the global organisation and network to represent the interests of preterm and newborn infants and their families. It brings together parents, healthcare experts from different disciplines, and scientists with the common goal of improving long-term health of preterm and newborn children. GFCNI’s vision is to ensure the best start in life for every baby.
The Union of European Neonatal & Perinatal Societies (UENPS) is a scientific society comprised of 49 National Neonatal and Perinatal Societies representing more than 15.000 healthcare professionals. The mission of UENPS is to enhance the quality of perinatal and neonatal care by integrating and coordinating the efforts of national scientific societies. In line with UENPS’s mission, a division called the “UENPS Halls of Knowledge” was established in 2019. Its goal is to consolidate all experiences and cultural activities developed over the years, offering a comprehensive educational approach to the current hot topics in neonatology.
