EBN Courses

Scientific Programme

The European Board of Neonatology (EBN) offers online pre-congress courses at the 4th Congress of joint European Neonatal Societies (jENS 2021) as part of the pre-conference programme on 11 and 12 September 2021:

Day 1: Perinatal arterial ischaemic stroke and cerebral sinus vein thrombosis
Day 2: Respiratory management of preterm infants with Respiratory Distress Syndrome

We warmly invite interested paediatricians, neonatologists and advanced nurse practitioners/allied health professionals to register.

Eligibility
EBN teaching courses are open to any medical professional who supports the aims of the European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR).

Participants of the EBN courses do not need to register for the entire jENS Congress. Please note that registration for the EBN courses alone does not constitute a registration for jENS 2021.

As spaces are limited, course registration works on a ‘first come, first serve basis’.

The course will cover practical clinical aspects of the care of newborns with stroke, such as seizure detection and management, MRI diagnosis, clinical findings, rehabilitation and outcome. It will also include an update on pre-clinical studies and the differential diagnosis of stroke-like lesions.

Course objectives:
  • To provide an update on clinical diagnosis and imaging in neonatal stroke.
  • To provide an update on seizure management, rehabilitation and outcome following neonatal stroke.
  • To present an update on current pre-clinical studies and potential future therapeutics in neonatal stroke.

Chairs: Roland Hentschel, Germany
Section: Pulmonology
DOWNLOAD PROGRAMME IN PDF
Course description:
In this course participants will receive an update of the latest evidence on respiratory management of preterm infants with Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS). The focus will be on non-invasive and invasive respiratory support, combined with surfactant treatment. The presented evidence will also be translated to clinical practice in an interactive session on real life cases.

Course objectives:
  • Participants will learn the underlying pathophysiology of RDS.
  • Participants will learn what non-invasive respiratory support modalities can be used in the treatment of RDS.
  • Participants will learn what invasive respiratory support modalities can be used in the treatment of RDS.
  • Participant will learn what surfactant treatment strategies can be used in the treatment of RDS.

Definition of possible course participants/target group:
This course is targeted towards paediatricians in training, neonatologists in training, consultant neonatologists, physician assistants, ventilation practitioners
