Maria Rosaria Raspollini

Maria Rosaria Raspollini graduated from the University of Florence, School of Medicine, Florence, Italy in 1994 summa cum laude, then trained in Pathology at the Institute of Pathology of the same University in 1998, and obtained the PhD degree in Human Oncological Pathology, at the University of Verona Medical School, Verona, Italy in 2005.

Since 2004, she is consultant pathologist at the Department of Histopathology and Molecular Diagnostics at the University Hospital Careggi of Florence, Italy. She is professor and tutor in Uropathology at the post-graduate School of Urology, University of Florence, Medical School. She served as teacher and tutor on Cytopathology and Gynaecological and Obstetrical Pathology at the post-graduate School of Anatomic Pathology, University of Florence Medical School and Gynaecological and Obstetrical Pathology, Diploma of Midwifery, University of Florence Medical School. From 2017 she is Counsil Member of European Society of Pathology (ESP). From 2017 she is Board Member of the EAU (European Association of Urology), Section of Uropathology (ESUP). From 2016 she is the official delegate of European Society of Pathology to the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO). From 2014 she is a faculty member of the European Society Medical Oncology (ESMO) for the section Gynaecopathology.

From 2011 to 2013 she was Secretary/elected Chair of Gynaecological Pathology Working Group of the European Society of Pathology, and from 2013 to 2017 she was Chair of the Gynaecological Pathology Working Group of the European Society of Pathology. She was committed to the coordination of WG members, organizing training courses, promoting a series of cases collection among the WG members and coordinating a consensus group for the definition of Recommendations for the reporting of malignant ovarian surface epithelial/stromal tumours.

She actively worked to finalize the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology and the European Society of Pathology. She promoted an active cooperation between the two Societies organizing specific joint sessions in the framework of the congresses of both Societies and common projects and guidelines on management of cervical carcinoma. Moreover, she is the co-chair of the project promoted by ESGO in cooperation with ESP and the European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology (ESTRO) entitled ESGO Cervical Cancer Clinical Practice Guidelines – ESGO Cervix 2017. Since 2013 she is in the Scientific Committee of the European Congresses of Pathology for planning all gynaecopathology sessions and courses. She contributed also to organize the joint sessions with the Uropathology, Pediatric Pathology and Infectious diseases WGs in the framework of the European Congresses of Pathology. She organized national and international courses of Gynaecological and Urological pathology.

She was teacher and tutor on Renal tumors, Advance in Urological Oncology at the International School of Urology and Nephrology, Erice, Sicily, Italy. Her expertise and research activity have been focused on gynaecological and urological pathology, with competences in immunohistochemistry, cytogenetics and molecular biology. She is cooperating with many University centres in Europe and USA on different international projects. From 2010 to 2015 she served as chair of Quality and certification Standards of the University Hospital Careggi in Florence.

She has been invited speaker to many national and international courses and congresses, and has contributed to the scientific organization of national and international courses and meetings. She serves as referee for 25 peer-reviewed journals, and has published more than 150 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals, and chapters in textbooks in the field of gynaecological and genitourinary pathology. In addition she is co-editor of the following textbooks: “Gynecologic and Urologic Pathology. Similarities, Differences and Challenges” with Antonio Lopez-Beltran for Cambridge University Press, UK – 2017, “Pathology of the Prostate: An algorithmic approach” with Antonio Lopez-Beltran, Liang Cheng, and Rodolfo Montironi for Cambridge University Press, UK – 2017 and “Uropathology” in Encyclopedia of Pathology for Springer.
