Fetal growth restriction (FGR) represents a complex challenge in maternal–fetal medicine,
requiring an integrated approach to prevention, diagnosis and clinical management. Early
recognition, an understanding of maternal–placental mechanisms, and appropriate
decisions on surveillance and timing of delivery are central to care aimed at protecting the
health of both mother and child.

The workshop “Fetal Growth Restriction: New Evidence and Clinical Guidelines”,
taking place on 30 October 2026, will bring together national and international experts for
a day of scientific updates and discussion, connecting research findings with decision-
making in clinical practice.

The programme will explore preconception prevention, early screening and diagnostic
criteria to distinguish small-for-gestational-age (SGA) fetuses from those with fetal growth
restriction. Particular attention will be given to maternal haemodynamic profiles, placental
function and fetal oxygen delivery, alongside an update on the Delphi consensus on FGR.

Sessions will also address new evidence on fetal monitoring, with a focus on findings from
the TRUFFLE2 study, the role of biomarkers in preeclampsia and FGR, timing and mode
of delivery, and long-term paediatric outcomes. A dedicated young investigators’ session
will provide an opportunity to present selected research contributions and engage in
discussion with experts.

The workshop aims to foster critical appraisal of the evidence and clinical
recommendations, equipping participants with practical insights to support appropriate,
personalised care.
